Dun Aoibhinn House has been offering a warm welcome and a friendly atmosphere since the 1930's. Originally built in 1930, Dun Aoibhinn House was home to the Sedward family. Mrs Sedward was the principal of Ireland's first Irish language primary school  which is located at the end of St Marys road. Her husband was an accountant with well known local merchants Mcdonagh's on Merchants road. During the summer they offered lodging to tourists and were also well known for accomodating visiting clergy during the yearly Novena. 

Dun Aoibhinn passed to the Tierney family when Una and Jimmy Tierney purchased the property in 1983. Both Jimmy and Una were well known throughout Galway City as they were both local business owners, Jimmy a butcher & Una a hairdresser. Throughout the  1980's & 90's the Tierney family continued the tradition of providing friendly accommodation in Galway City. The property was added to and upgraded a number of times while always remaining true to the original style. Dun Aoibhinn got some national media attention in early 1990's when it was used by a leading supermarket chain for a tv commercial shown on Irish television.

Sadly Una and Jimmy are no longer with us but their son Jim took the reins in 2003.

Keen to maintain the integrity and character of Dun Aoibhinn, Jim also wanted to modernise the property. An extensive renovation program was begun with an emphasis on adding modern conveniences such as widescreen tvs, dvd players, satellite tv, laptop safes, fridges and free wifi in all rooms. Local artisans were employed to restore the lustre to this period residence. Great care was taken to refurbish original doors, floorboards, sash windows and small features such as architrave & stained glass.

Today Jim ia proud to operate a premises which has the best of two Worlds- old world charm and modern amenities.

Jim continues to strive for excellence and a further project including adding more rooms is planned for the near future
